_D_e_s_c_r_i_p_t_i_o_n:

Number of prostate cancer deaths and midperiod population for
nonwhites in the USA by age and period. The cohort index k is
related to age and period indices (i and j, respectively) by k = j
     + I - i, where I = max(i) (Holford, 1983, Table 2).

_U_s_a_g_e:

     data(cohorts)

_F_o_r_m_a_t:

A data frame with 49 observations on the following 4 variables.

     _p_e_r_i_o_d A factor with levels '1935-', '1940-', ..., '1965-'.

     _a_g_e A factor with levels '50-', '55-', ..., '80-'.

_y Numeric: the number of prostate cancer deaths.

_n Numeric: the midperiod population size.

_R_e_f_e_r_e_n_c_e_s:

Holford, T.R., 1983. _The estimation of age, period and cohort
effects for vital rates_. Biometrics 39, 311-324.
