_p_s_y_c_h_o_l_o_g_y _o_f _d_e_b_t

_D_e_s_c_r_i_p_t_i_o_n:

     The data arise from a large postal survey on the psychology of
     debt.

_U_s_a_g_e:

     data(debt)

_F_o_r_m_a_t:

     A data frame with 464 observations on the following 13 variables.

     _i_n_c_o_m_e_g_p income group (1=lowest, 5=highest)

     _h_o_u_s_e security of housing tenure (1=rent, 2=mortgage, 3=owned
          outright)

     _c_h_i_l_d_r_e_n number of children in household

     _s_i_n_g_p_a_r is the respondent a single parent?

     _a_g_e_g_p age group (1=youngest)

     _b_a_n_k_a_c_c does the respondent have a bank account?

     _b_s_o_c_a_c_c does the respondent have a building society account?

     _m_a_n_a_g_e self-rating of money management skill (high values=high
          skill)

     _c_c_a_r_d_u_s_e how often did s/he use credit cards (1=never...
          3=regularly)

     _c_i_g_b_u_y does s/he buy cigarettes?

     _x_m_a_s_b_u_y does s/he buy Christmas presents for children?

     _l_o_c_i_n_t_r_n score on a locus of control scale (high values=internal)

     _p_r_o_d_e_b_t score on a scale of attitudes to debt (high
          values=favourable to debt

_D_e_t_a_i_l_s:

     All yes/no questions are coded 0=no, 1=yes. Locus of control is a
     personality measure introduced by Rotter, which claims to
     differentiate people according to how much they feel things that
     happen to them are as a result of processes within themselves
     (internal locus of control) or outside events (external locus of
     control).
